Secondary School (SMP)

A Comprehensive Education Rooted in Islamic Values

AIS Secondary School aims to provide education that focuses on Islamic education and the Quran as a way of life. We equip students with global knowledge and skills to fulfill their role as caliphs on earth, in accordance with the purpose of human creation as stated in the Quran:

“And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels, ‘I am going to create a viceroy on earth.’…” (Quran 2:30)

Cultivating the Next Generation of Muslim Leaders

AIS strives to offer an educational program that contributes to the mission of creating a generation of excellent Muslims who will restore the glory of Islam. We achieve this by providing competent teachers and the best learning resources.

AIS students will deepen their understanding of Islamic monotheism (tawhid) according to the Ahlussunnah Wal Jamaah school of thought. They will develop character with noble morals, establish firm ibadah (worship) and muamalah (social interactions), and learn valuable lessons from the life of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

The Islamic education process at AIS also includes fostering an Islamic lifestyle in school and daily practices monitored through a mutaba'ah book.

Leadership and Entrepreneurship

We support the development of leadership and entrepreneurship skills from an early age through integrated education. Our goal is to create future leaders who are strong, creative, and trustworthy, with a special emphasis on the aspect of noble character (akhlakul karimah). AIS students will be guided by Muslim entrepreneurs to develop their leadership and entrepreneurial potential.

Languages

English is the language of instruction in the classroom. However, teachers are also prepared to explain concepts in a language that students can understand. Arabic language learning is facilitated to enable understanding of the Quran and Islamic books, as well as to communicate with scholars.

Nurturing Potential into Achievement

AIS Secondary School provides facilities for students to try various activities and competitions, creating a diverse learning experience. Extracurricular activities are directed towards activities recommended by the Prophet Muhammad SAW, such as martial arts, swimming, archery, and horseback riding. The development of organizational skills is also emphasized through membership in the Student Council (OSIS) and the Scout Movement. We believe that through these experiences, students will be able to explore and optimize their potential.

Other Key Features of AIS Secondary School:

  • A focus on holistic development: In addition to academic excellence, AIS also emphasizes the development of students' spiritual, emotional, and social well-being.
  • A strong emphasis on Islamic values: AIS is committed to providing an education that is rooted in Islamic values and principles.
  • A qualified and experienced teaching staff: AIS teachers are highly qualified and experienced.
  • A modern and well-equipped campus: AIS has a modern and well-equipped campus that provides students with a conducive learning environment.

Curriculum Overview

Our vision is to nurture intelligent students who become a Qur'anic Generation with noble character and a global perspective, ready to assume their role as khalifahs on Earth. We integrate three curriculums: Cambridge, Tahfidz Qur'an, and National, to cater to the students' needs.

Islamic Education

At the junior high school level, students study general education and books by scholars under the guidance of ustadz and sheikhs. The books studied include Ta'lim Muta'alim, Tuhfatul Athfal, Attibyan fii Adaabi Hamalatil Quran, Jurumiyah, Arbain, At-Taqrib, and Aqidatul Awam.

Tahfidz Al-Qur'an

Tahfidz Qur'an activities at AIS take place every day: in the morning before Dhuha prayer, after Dhuhur prayer, and after Asr prayer. The aim is to accustom children to the Qur'an and foster love for it. Muroja'ah (revision) is conducted after Maghrib and Subuh prayers, guided by parents (for those who go home) or ustadz (for those who stay in the dormitory).

New students learn the basics of reading the Qur'an (makhorizul huruf and tajwid) with sheikhs from Gaza, Palestine who have sanad (chain of transmission) of the Qur'an. Students are expected to memorize with correct pronunciation (fasih). In this phase, students memorize juz 30 using the talaqqi method.

Once students can read the Qur'an well, the mutabaah method (independent memorization) is used, with the results of memorization checked regularly by ustadz/ustadzah.

Memorization Target

Students are expected to complete memorizing 15 juz of the Qur'an by grade IX.

Exams and Sanad of the Qur'an

Students are regularly tested on their memorization to ensure they retain it (mutiqin). Students who have completed memorizing 30 juz and passed the exam can take the sanad exam to obtain a certificate of sanad of the Qur'an.

International Curriculum (Cambridge IGCSE)

At AIS, Cambridge IGCSE is offered to students in grades 7-9. This curriculum provides a broad and balanced study of various subjects, using a learner-centered and inquiry-based approach. Students are encouraged to actively participate in learning and make connections between the subjects they study.

This curriculum develops students' knowledge, understanding, and skills in:

  • Mastery of subject content
  • Applying knowledge and understanding to solve new problems
  • Scientific inquiry
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to change
  • Working and communicating in English
  • Cultural understanding

Al Lathif adopts the IGCSE curriculum in three subjects: Mathematics, Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), and English. In grade 9, students will take the Cambridge IGCSE certification exam for these three subjects. The exam certificates have the same standard worldwide.

National Curriculum

SMP Al Lathif is a formal school registered in Indonesia. To meet the educational standards and foster understanding of the nation's culture, AIS uses the Indonesian national curriculum.
